My First ‘Race’

I got my first taste of road racing as an intern for the 2007 Austin Marathon and Half Marathon. Yeah, I wasn’t even a runner, but that quickly changed. I became immersed in the Austin running culture and smitten with the idea that another sport (besides football and baseball) would allow me to push myself and test my limits. Throughout the years there have been plenty of road races, completing many 5Ks, 10Ks, and even a marathon (2015 Austin!). But I’ve never raced; never thought of winning. I’ve never wanted to win; never thought I could win. I’ve never worked to better my time to win. I’ve never trained and pushed myself to win.

Behind-the-Scenes at the 39th Annual Capitol 10,000

You registered for the Cap10K several months ago or on Saturday, 4/9, at the Health & Fitness Expo. Running on your own or with a local training group has set you up to have a great race. Race morning comes and all your gear is laid out, your shoes are properly laced, and breakfast is consumed. Restroom breaks are taken and nerves start to set in, or maybe they don’t. Maybe you’re out to have fun during the Cap10K. Either way, you’re about to run with 20,527 of your soon-to-be closest friends. There will be thousands of costumes on course and hundreds of teams running together.

Austin Runners Dominate the Lost Pines Trail Runs

On Sunday, March 20th, runners toed the start line in ideal running conditions. The vernal equinox, or first day of spring, brought about the perfect weather for the Lost Pines Trail Runs, held in Smithville, Texas. With temperatures in the low 40s at the start, participants began their race, either a 10K, half marathon, or marathon, on the challenging terrain at Rocky Hill Ranch. Austinites began to take over the race as temperatures began to slowly climb.
