We see a lot of one-off events around central Texas from outside companies looking to strike it rich off area runners. They make a big splash and then don’t return. But the HITS series doesn’t fall within that category, back for their second year and creating a partnership with local shops Texas Running Company and Bicycle Sport Shop to forge what seems to be a long-term plan of being a part of the community.
Participants have six event options to choose from at the December 14th race – Family Mile, 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Sprint Duathlon (2 mile run, 10 mile bike, 2 mile run) – all held at the Circuit of Americas southeast of Austin. Only the half marathon and marathon go outside of the COTA grounds, spending about half the race on the track and half on the outer roads. The track is roughly 3.3 miles, host of the annual Formula One international race as well as numerous other events.
For reference, there are no other major running events at COTA. It’s the only Formula One track in the entire United States and draws 100,000+ spectators each fall for the internationally televised race.
Packet pickup is set for Saturday, December 13th at Texas Running Company’s 5th Street location from 11 AM – 5 PM. Race morning pickup begins at 5:30 AM.
Registration fees are:
- Family Mile: $20
- 5K: $30
- 10K: $40
- Half Marathon: $90
- Marathon: $120
- Sprint Duathlon: $100
The HITS brand has grown to 14 scheduled events for 2015 across the United States in addition to 15 scheduled triathlon camps. They’ll be back in Texas April 25-26 for the Marble Falls Triathlon.
