Kara Goucher is Looking to Leave Nike

American marathoner Kara Goucher, who for much of the last Olympiad was the face of Nike distance running, may be leaving the swoosh behind, according to people familiar with the matter.

Goucher, 35, is actively negotiating for another primary endorsement contract with other sports and apparel companies, though Nike has the potential to retain her through a contract clause that gives the company the right of first refusal, according to one of these people. A final deal is expected sometime in February, this person said.

SICK: Ashton Eaton sets 400 meter hurdles goal of 47 seconds

With no major championships to consider next season, Ashton Eaton has decided to switch his attention to the 400m hurdles and says he is eyeing times of between 47 and 48 seconds over the barriers.

Last year the 25-year-old world decathlon record-holder added the world title to the Olympic gold he claimed in London in 2012, putting him well on his way to becoming the best decathlete in history.

The Perfect Triathlon Dating Profile?

The topic of Internet dating — and particularly how people portray themselves in their online profiles — featured prominently in a recent conversation among my friends. I know several veterans of the online dating scene, and their sagas of stretched truths and disturbing surprises (and, fortunately, also some real-life success stories) are plentiful.

Local Runners On Edge In San Antonio After Women’s Death Inside Park

The local running community remains on edge after the death of a young woman at a popular northwest-side park.

The body of 24-year-old Lauren Bump was discovered New Year’s Eve along a trail in O.P. Schnabel Park.  She suffered multiple sharp-force injuries, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Loaded Field Set for 2014 Chevron Houston Marathon/Half Marathon

The 42nd edition of the Chevron Houston Marathon Race Weekend features stacked fields in both the Chevron Houston Marathon and the Aramco Houston Half Marathon, which plays host to the USA Half Marathon Championships.

“Our Elite Athlete Committee has done its homework, as always, to produce a field that has the potential to rewrite our race record book,” said Chevron Houston Marathon Race Director Brant Kotch.

Tri-This Swimming In Austin

The saying goes, “You can’t win the race in the water, but you can certainly lose it.” For many triathletes there are a select few who spent the hours in the pool as a young tadpole or joined the local masters swim program before grabbing a bike and pair of running shoes. For many dry landers I’m sure you have kicked, thrashed, and swallowed a lot of water in order to attempt to swim.
