The Austin American Statesman reported that Timo Sheard, a highly respected track and cross-country coach at Cedar Park High School, has been placed on administrative leave by the Leander School District, pending an investigation. Veronica Sopher, the Leander School District’s assistant superintendent of government and community relations, declined to answer any questions about Sheard and referred all queries to the Cedar Park Police Department.
Sheard, who teaches German at Cedar Park HS, has been at the school since it began. He started the Cedar Park cross-country program and has headed it for 17 years, building it into a regional and statewide powerhouse. He coached the girls team to a state championship in 2003 and a boys state title in 2010.
He has been replaced by Cami Jenschke and Mark Myers who will team to coach both the boys and girls programs at Cedar Park in Sheard’s absence.
Sheard, who is a marathoner and has coached adult runners as well, didn’t respond to emails from Texas Running Post. Sources in the Cedar Park running community were stunned by the news about Sheard and nobody we contacted had any idea what had transpired.
There doesn’t seem to be any record in Williamson County Jail of an arrest or arrest warrant for Sheard.
