It's common these days for races to offer more than one distance option. In that respect, the Silicon Labs Sunshine Run is typical with a 5-K and 10-K on the same course at the same time. Usually, everything works out just fine, but on Sunday morning confusion reigned.
Spring has always meant 5-K racing season in Austin and even though the number of races has diminished, there are still several races left such as the Purple Stride 5-K at Arbor Trails in south Austin (May 7th), the Daisy 5-K at Camp Mabry on May 28th and the Stars and Stripes 6-K, also at Camp Mabry (May 30). This Sunday (May 8) is the biggest and best of the bunch: The third annual Silicon Labs Sunshine Run.

You registered for the Cap10K several months ago or on Saturday, 4/9, at the Health & Fitness Expo. Running on your own or with a local training group has set you up to have a great race. Race morning comes and all your gear is laid out, your shoes are properly laced, and breakfast is consumed. Restroom breaks are taken and nerves start to set in, or maybe they don’t. Maybe you’re out to have fun during the Cap10K. Either way, you’re about to run with 20,527 of your soon-to-be closest friends. There will be thousands of costumes on course and hundreds of teams running together.
An overcast and balmy spring morning in Austin, Texas - not exactly 'perfect' running conditions - did little to prevent more than 20,000 participants from toeing the line at this year's Capitol 10,000. The race eclipse the 20K mark on Friday afternoon, a significant jump from previous years and a return to the days when the event was ranked among the biggest 10k's in the country.
On Tuesday, April 5th, William Dyson, of High Five Events, sat down with David Fuentes, 2016 Olympic Trials Marathon Qualifier, to talk about the his involvement with this Sunday’s Cap10K, why he likes to lose, and how he kicks back when he’s not running. David also dishes out some advice for anyone looking to PR in their next marathon or half.
